A snakes body is made up of several hundred vertebrae and ribs joined
together with muscles. A snake is able to do a huge variety of movements
of which there are four main types, called lateral undulation
(serpentine), rectilinear locomotion, concertina movement and
sidewinding. The fastest snake, the Black Mamba, can go at 10 miles per
hour over short distances. Other speedy snakes are the Black Racer and
the Coachwhip.
